The holiday season is a time for us to enjoy our family and friends. Unfortunately for one of our members, this season has turned into a challenging time.

Brother Bruce Doef is an active member of Local 00061, Rideau Canal. This weekend, his son Neil was following his dream by trying out for the Canadian World Junior Hockey Team in Saskatoon. Unfortunately, a terrible accident occurred during the tryouts and Neil was so seriously hurt he required immediate surgery. Needless to say, Brother Doef and his family have travelled to Saskatoon to be by Neil’s side. Attached is a short article in English about the accident. http://www.insideottawavalley.com/news-story/5207814-smiths-falls-bears-doef-resting-comfortably

A part from the concerns for his son, Brother Bruce also must think about the ongoing costs for their travel and stay in Saskatoon as well as any other potential medical costs that might not be covered and getting Neil home.

UCTE wants to help alleviate some of these concerns. We are appealing to all locals to consider helping Brother Doef so that he can focus on his son. UCTE will collect any donations and forward them onto the Doef family to cover the expenses incurred.

Please make all donations payable to UCTE noting Doef family donation and forward to the National Office at:
