UCTE Canadian Coast Guard response specialist members who grieved their classification can breathe a little easier. In its decision of September 10, 2014, the Deputy Minister confirmed the Classification Grievance Committee recommendation to reclassify the positions to GT-04 group and level effective April 1, 2005.

Response specialists, originally classified as GT-03 under the National Model Work Descriptions, are responsible for the maintenance and operations of pollution response equipment with the Environmental Response section. Members monitor and manage marine oil spills in Canadian waters and can be deployed internationally as needed since they are part of the national response team.
