On December 6, members of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees’ Local 80807 will hold a rally at the Sydney/J. A. Douglas McCurdy Airport demanding that their employer negotiates a fair collective agreement now.

Chris Bussey, Regional Vice-President for UCTE’s Atlantic Region comments on the slow state of bargaining: “The other side just doesn’t get it; our bargaining team members will not accept proposals that see their existing working conditions rolled back.”

Some of the sticking points are:

  • the employer’s refusal to provide an Employee Assistance Program
  • the employer refusing to acknowledge that employees who are trained to fight fires are indeed firefighters
